the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Huricane Felix reaches category 2 hurricane strength

Last night Tropical Storm Felix was upgraded to Hurricane Felix and quickly intensified to a category 2 hurricane, with 105mph winds and 980mb of pressure. Hurricane Felix has become very impressive on satellite imagery, with a nice, small, pretty eyewall. Hurricane Felix has got spectacular convective symmetry. He has skirted north of Aruba, and has his sights set on the Yucatan Peninsula following a similar course to the path that Hurricane Dean took. Hot on his heels is a tropical wave, Invest 98L, just off the coast of Africa. The circulation this morning on Invest 98L is very well defined; though, the convection is slightly lopsided, not looking like much of anything, except for the strong low circulation. The NHC does suspect that a tropical depression may be defined out of that low within the next couple of days. Finally, there is an area off the coast of GA moving eastward that has some potential for development, as well. Watching and waiting...

In other news... the guys posted this link on the NWS Tally site regarding the Oregon Scientific Weather Radio Recall, apparently, the China-made radios can fail to give weather alerts, which wouldn't be good, since that's generally something that happens on a need-to-know basis. If you have these radios, you should cease and desist usage. So there.

I took some pics on the way up here that were pretty. No, Alabama Mike, of course, I wasn't driving up the road at the time ;-), but I was able to use the steering wheel to stabilize the camera. Pardon the windshield nastiness. Today, I am hoping to make it out to Stone Mountain to catch the laser show and perhaps try to catch some pics. There is not a huge chance of POPS today up here, so hopefully, it'll be a go.

That's all for me for now.

Ciao,
