High Risk PDS in the Central US...

I will start with the incredibly exciting news. High Risk area, this is a PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation), for today in Arkansas/Mississippi/Tennessee. I was on Steve M.(OK)'s chat last night, where everyone was going ballistic over the upcoming severe weather season kick-off, which is happening today. The dynamics are on fire, and it looks like quite a start to the end of SDS for some chasers. The expectation is that there will be some intensely severe weather. Here is what the SPC has to say about it.

EXTREME SHEAR WITH SFC-1 KM SRH IN EXCESS OF 300 M2/S2 SUGGESTS STORMS WILL RAPIDLY DEVELOP ROTATION AND AN ATTENDANT TORNADO THREAT ONCE THEY ROOT INTO DEEPLY MOIST BOUNDARY LAYER. ANY TORNADIC SUPERCELLS COULD PRODUCE A LONG-LIVED SIGNIFICANT TORNADO IN THIS ENVIRONMENT.
I am looking ahead to the leftovers of this system. The SPC has expanded the slight risk area for tomorrow to put me smack dab in the middle of it. If the timing is right on it, I might be able to get a piece of it, catch me some wamma jamma supercells (sorry to rub it in Mr. Jealous... happy b-day Kersten.) Unfortunately, models are trending a slow down of the front, which puts everything here later in the day, which means, my chance of the fabulous chasetunity go out the door, unless I can chase with 4 little girls in the back of my mini-van... no, I don't plan to do that. It's dangerous storm chasing in South Georgia, with limited visibility... usually squall line storms by the time they reach here, which offers the occassional pulsed isolated supercell, and usually an HP situation which drastically cuts visibility, and, of course, creates the added danger of stuff dropping right on top of you. This is nothing like plains chasing... if you're on it, you're more close to in it. I am severely geographically misplaced. Anyways, stay tuned tonight and tomorrow for updates. Today though, it is certain to be a big day. People in Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and Missouri need to be vigilant with their eyes to the sky. It is likely going to be a rough Super Tuesday. Get out there and vote anyways... I did!

Yesterday was a lovely day, and as I said, the idea of being trapped in my office during all the beautifulness, was unthinkable, so I took some time off in the afternoon and went out to take pics, which you know I love to do. It was incredibly relaxing. I will just share my favorites... Yes, yes, I know the post is late today. I had a super busy morning and early afternoon preparing for a fundraiser luncheon for the Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. If anyone would like to contribute, drop me a line! Shameless, I know.

5:30 Update: Check out this tornado watch box in Kansas City, MO... weird.Toodles,
