the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

No, no hurricane, just a lot of wind

Naturally, my ears perk up when those around me are talking about anything weather... well, the talk around here has been "Did you hear we're going to have a pre-season hurricane?" Just to dispel any rumors... no, the forecast doesn't call for a hurricane. The weak low pressure has been absorbed into a much larger non-tropical system, which is causing grief in Florida. Jay, General BS, in Jacksonville, has been reporting soaking rains and inadequate wind (he's a storm chaser... 25mph winds with 40mph gusts just don't do it for us.) The wind is actually the result of a strong pressure gradient. A powerful high pressure system has planted itself over much of the country, virtually eradicating weather for everyone within that area, and the strong low over southern Florida creates almost a wind tunnel effect, which north Florida and south Georgia are feeling.

NASSAU-DUVAL-ST JOHNS-FLAGLER-
INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...FERNANDINA BEACH...JACKSONVILLE... ST AUGUSTINE...PALM COAST

A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING.

STRONG HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE NORTH OF THE AREA AS LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPS NEAR SOUTHERN FLORIDA AND MOVES WEST. ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST...WINDS WILL BE FROM THE NORTHEAST NEAR 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH. INLAND AREAS...SUSTAINED WINDS WILL BE AROUND 25 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 35 TO 40 MPH.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WIND ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS OF 25 TO 39 MPH ARE EXPECTED FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR...WITH GUSTS OF 40 TO 57 MPH OR GREATER AT ANY TIME. MINOR DAMAGE TO TREES...POWER LINES...AND PROPERTY ARE POSSIBLE WITH WIND OF THIS MAGNITUDE. MOTORISTS IN HIGH PROFILES VEHICLES ARE ADVISED TO USE CAUTION UNTIL THE WIND SUBSIDES. STRONG WINDS CAN TOPPLE TREES...BLOW WEAKENED ROOFS OFF HOUSES... AND DOWN POWER LINES. TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO SECURE TRASH CANS... LAWN FURNITURE...AND ANY OTHER LOOSE OUTDOOR OBJECTS
Here, winds are constant and pounding hard in from the east, as our low level cloud race by like outer bands of a hurricane. Here is our hazardous weather outlook (HWO):
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR SOUTHEAST ALABAMA... SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH CENTRAL GEORGIA...THE FLORIDA BIG BEND AND PANHANDLE...AND THE ADJACENT GULF COASTAL WATERS.

A GALE WARNING IS IN EFFECT ACROSS THE NORTHEAST GULF COASTAL WATERS DUE TO ONGOING FREQUENT WIND GUSTS TO GALE FORCE. EVEN OVER INLAND AREAS...GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS WILL CONTINUE TODAY AT LEVELS SIMILAR OR SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN THOSE OBSERVED ON TUESDAY. A LAKE WIND ADVISORY HAS BEEN REISSUED AS SMALL BOATS WILL BE ESPECIALLY PRONE TO CAPSIZING UNDER THESE CONDITIONS ON LARGER AREA LAKES SUCH AS SEMINOLE AND TALQUIN AND THE WALTER F GEORGE RESERVOIR.
... and our forecast... A bit of exciting news is that the drought is being busted all over the place with all this ridiculous rain drenching the soil and helping to prevent forest fires, and Smokey said only we could... Also, looks like Jeff and Chris have got a great looking chasetunity today, with a 5% chance of tornadoes in their neck of the woods. I know they are chomping at the bit. Be safe guys.

Have a wonderful day!

  1. You do a marvelous job of telling the rest of us around the country exactly what your weather is doing! I love reading your stuff. I get internet tomorrow, so I'll be better equipped to update the blog world with my own interpretation of the weather and whatever I can snap a picture of. :o)

    Have a wonderful day!!

  2. It's a funny thing, dear Dewdrop, I've been praying over that drought we've been hearing about. It seems there is such bad news in the weather all over--and rain, so needed over there--going to so many other places that do not need it.

I'm so glad to hear rain is present. I'd like to think God heard my prayers.

  3. Ami, thanks so much for your kind words. It is my passion to share the weather, break it down and have it be interesting to more people as a result. The more people who take an interest, the more aware and, therefore, safer they become.

Beth, now, could we see about slowing it down a bit???
