Well, I haven't blogged about it, but I think Ken commented, and I have been intrigued about TWC's Vortex 2 project, where Mike Bettis, a Weather Channel meteorologist joins forces with 100 scientists to carry out in the field weather studies of severe weather. "VORTEX2 is the largest field experiment in history to explore the origins, structure and evolution of tornadoes. The VORTEX2 teams will be looking to understand how, when and why tornadoes form. Answers to these questions will give researchers a better understanding of tornadoes and should help increase warning time for those in the path of these deadly storms." Apparently, it's a 5 week storm chase, which began Sunday to a busted start... they've got... rain. They didn't even bring me with them, and they've got Dewvoid. All is not lost though, assuming they don't mind chasing in Illinois and Missouri... not exactly ideal for Doppler on Wheels type chasing, where things aren't nearly as wide-open as a storm chaser might like. A moderate risk for severe weather on Day 3 is a pretty big deal though.
A WIDESPREAD SEVERE WEATHER EVENT WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
GOOD CERTAINTY CONCERNING THE DEVELOPMENT OF NUMEROUS STORMS IN A STRONGLY SHEARED ENVIRONMENT SUPPORTS THE ISSUANCE OF A MODERATE RISK IN IL AND MO WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. PARAMETERS ON FORECAST SOUNDINGS SUGGEST THE ENVIRONMENT WILL BE FAVORABLE FOR A SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER EVENT WITH A STRONGLY FORCED LINE OF INTENSE STORMS.

Have a wonderful week!

Sounds like your mom's day was perfection! Nice!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great Mother's Day, Jenn! I did indeed comment about VORTEX 2. Now that the project has kicked off, and all chase opportunities seem to now be confined to the central and northern plains, I will not be chasing any more this season, unless a rogue supercell decides to fire up within 150 miles of Dallas during the summer.
ReplyDeleteInstead, I will be working through Precalculus, Introductory Physics, and Introductory Meteorology books, in preparation for my long awaited return to college for a degree in Meteorology.
I can't wait!
Happy belated Mother's Day Dew!

Happy Mother's Day, Dew! My husband and I performed Saturday and Sunday nights. When we got home there was a lovely pan of low-fat peanutbutter granola, and a glass cup with a VERY wilted set of flowers. (grin) They'd forgotten to put water in the cup...
ReplyDeleteAren't children wonderful? Take care, storm sis!
Dew, the autographed picture that Jim C sent you created an irreversible link to the Dewvoid....Hence the bust start with rain...
ReplyDeleteIt was a perfect day. Thanks to all of you!
ReplyDeleteKen, let me know if you need help. I used to tutor math at the university, through Calculus III. I would love to follow your lead.
Beth, they are wonderful!!
