The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

California wildfires and a sun chase...

Looks like the weather is a go for tonight's barn party, only a slight chance for here, and that will most likely be isolated. My fingers are crossed. In fact, it looks to me like precipitation has really dropped off in the forecast, POPS have come down. The convection that was developing in the Caribbean Sea seems to be shearing off to the NE offering some much needed rain to southern Florida and up through the far eastern CONUS. Not here. Are we surprised? Shouldn't be... Incidentally, there is one low in the middle of the Atlantic that has the potential to become a subtropical somthing or other. It is a huge low spinning out there... but nothing to worry about.

(Grabbed the pic from CNN, follow the link by clicking on the pic) The fires in Southern California are starting to get contained. Fortunately, those Santa Ana winds have started to die down some, giving those fire fighters and planes a fighting chance against those devastating wildfires. One very interesting thing that Mini-Dew and I watched on TWC (or was that CNN???) was a fire tornado, an incredibly freakish occurrence, but apparently those are sparking up in the fire given the shear environment. Mini-Dew's reaction... "WHOA!" They are pretty evil looking. Even with our recent Waycross fire experience, it is hard to imagine a fire 3/4 the size of Rhode Island (over 700 square miles), with death toll of 7 at last count, taking down any structure in its path, now over 1500 homes, 900,000 people out of their homes, almost a 1,000 firefighters battling this beast. Now, I hear that it is considered arson. How stupid are people?! Sheesh.

Yesterday, I was treated to a glorious sunset on my way to Mini-Dew's practice. The colors painting the sky were incredible. I simply couldn't pass up the opportunity to stop and shoot some shots of it. It literally took my breath away as I drove up the road and saw it off to my west. Given time constraints, I was not able to get to a good viewing field, but it was still breath-taking. I shot several pics of that and then headed back east to go to Mini-Dew's practice, which is when I saw the nearly full moon beaming in the sky right in front of me. I have to tell you, the moon yesterday was completely unobstructed, casting a brilliant light into the sky, turning it to a midnight blue color. It was serene. Tonight, the full moon occurs.

That's it for me for today, except this parting thought:

Live simply, Love generously,
Care deeply, Speak kindly,
Leave the rest to God.
Happy Friday,

  3. I saw the fire tornado too and was going to tell you about it today! I agree with Mini-Dew that it looked very sinister. I wondered if that is what storms look like in Hell...What's this about a barn dance?! I haven't been to one in ages! Great sunset pics! The sunsets here never seem to have that much purple in them, I wonder why.

  4. Wow, hadn't considered the storms in Hell notion. Interesting spin on things.

    Yep, barn dance, can you believe that?

    I love the purple in the sunsets, but I guess you know that.
