MY SKYWATCH POST IS BELOW...
Well, I sat in on a conference call with the emergency manager yesterday, where we were briefed on the official status of the forecast, and local leaders and volunteers were warned that we are expecting 6-8 inches of rain... with the heaviest rain expected around 2AM this morning. Yeah... I cleared .18" of rain from my CoCoRaHS approved rain gauge after I woke up... The rain just isn't really making it here. The bands are exhausting themselves of those rich downpours long before arriving here... Tropical Storm Fay's center is near Gainesville, FL, which is about 100 miles southeast of here... and bands of precipitation (now with some clear dry air slots filtering in) are feeding in out of the Atlantic Ocean. Slow moving (6mph), now with slower windspeeds (45mph), Fay is making her way across the Floridian peninsula and is expected to emerge enough for possibly TWO more Floridian landfalls. She is a crazy storm. In all fairness, I should mention that the drizzle here now can easily turn into a heavy downpour, strong wind and even a chance for isolated tornadoes with any number of these bands. So, people need to be watchful and mindful. Do not drive into any flood waters. Turn around, don't drown!!! Anyways... that's the position and status update... and a safety tip.
Check out what's on the horizon... Have a great Friday! Mine is wet...and from 10:50AM until 6PM, I have a tornado watch...

I had a neighbor in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) whose home was called "Dew Drop Inn" - how cool is that?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your storm chasing. We lived in Savannah and enjoyed preparing for several hurricanes. Nothing was ever really worse than a strong wind though. Hope it's the same for you!
Thanks. I don't expect it to get too bad. Keeping an eye on things, for sure.
ReplyDeleteReluctant Farm Chick??? Cool. :O)
I came by for SW, I've entered for the first time, and got caught up in this post.
ReplyDeleteWeather fascinates me and always reminds me of how tiny we are in the universe.
Stay safe!
Tornado's are no fun. Stay safe and thanks for the Fay update.
ReplyDeleteSorry to slow you down, Dianne. Welcome to SWF!!! If you like weather, I think you'll enjoy my blog quite often.
ReplyDeleteRena, That's a very subjective statement... :O)
