Losing time

Just when you thought you didn't have enough time in your day, a thrust earthquake knocks the earth off its axis robbing us of the one thing we can never seem to get enough of... TIME! The 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Chile in the wee hours of the morning Saturday, stealing the lives of more than 800 lives also shortened the day, by what scientists estimate to be about 1.26 millionths of a second. It's really not a material difference at all, but it is fascinating to me.

On a less global scale, folks on the north side of Georgia are digging their way out of, yet another, snow storm. Snow fell all day long in some parts of Georgia yesterday, closing schools and roads, again. This is data from Georgia's CoCoRaHS snow data. When we were training for CoCoRaHS, we sort of skimmed over the snow part of the training. I'm not certain I could even tell you what to do... it's never really been an issue, but those folks in the northern part of the state are having to break open their training manuals and see what to do with all this snow. These winter storms are getting old. Fortunately, despite the cold temperatures, spring is starting to blossom in the area as Japanese magnolia trees come to life in a sea of purple, amidst all the brown dreariness. Come on spring!!!

Have a beautiful day!

  1. I read about that--I've heard we're in for a dooozy of an earthquake. They say it could happen anytime and that it would be bigger than the one in Haiti, and last for six minutes.

I can hardly imagine the kind of horror that would unleash...

I pray it doesn't happen soon--or if it does, that somehow we're prepared for it in advance.

I wonder how this will change our weather?
