the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

New Beginnings... the dawning of a new year!

Hope everyone's NEW Year has started with a bang. Mine certainly did with a round of about 20 minutes of fireworks demonstrated by my dear son and his life-long friend (the firefighter... ) Good thinking with regards to having a firefighter friend, dear son. You see, my dear son, like most charmingly boyish men, tend to have a fascination with fire (the photographs of the fire and fireworks are from last year, since my batteries died at the last minute, and I wasn't in the condition to run back inside and change them out. I got lots of great people shot, but I missed out on the fireworks and fire since I spent most of the time in a recliner this year...) Of course, my yard, as usual, was littered with leftover plastic popper containers, confetti, streamers, and remnants of fireworks, but my wonderful gtb was a sweetheart and cleaned up that before his parents came over for dinner last night.

My recovery is going well. I am feeling a little better sitting upright today than I have the past week. Looks like it's back to work on Monday. The doctor had warned me that there was a one-two day recovery. Apparently, he has never had his ovary operated on... ouch.

Looking at the year ahead, I am excited about all the wonderful adventures that God has planned for us. I don't know what lies in store, but I am planning to embrace 2009 with both hands, grab on tight and take the ride of my life. Heck, just looking ahead to the next 4 days or so, looks like some severe weather potential is cooking up for then. Currently, much of the Gulf coast is looking at a slight risk for severe weather. Looks to me like an early spring weather pattern... doesn't seem like the expected January weather, at all. Go figure.Looks like a severe weather watch is on its way; meanwhile, up in those higher up states (Minnesota and North Dakota), they are facing heavy s#@w. Better them than me.

Aside from all that, in my comments, Troy was absolutely correct when he suggested that I might like the photo linked here. What an amazing Shelf Cloud, Duane Clausen (of Northern Exposures Photography) (Thanks to Josh for the link to Duane's site!)captured! Thanks, Troy for bringing this amazing photograph to my attention.Again, not my work, folks, just thought I would share.

Happy New Year!

  1. Hiya, Dew! I appreciate your comment. Thanks! Also... I heard Duane Clausen speak and saw his work at a PCAMS (Packerland Chapter of the AMS) meeting a couple years back. He's an awesome dude and lives in the UP. He's got all kinds of photos. Check out his site.

I love how you use snow as a "dirty" word ;), and that you're recovering well!

  2. Glad to hear you are recovering well, Dew! I am currently battling a severe case of SDS and am in rabid anticipation of the spring storm season. I have a lot of exciting, high adventure photography outings planned this year, though, that may override storm chasing in importance. *GASP!* Gotta start making some money somehow.

Anyway, good luck and I hope 2009 is an awesome year for you!

  4. Happy New Year Dewdee!

It looks like you are going to get some pre-frontal and frontal action on Wednesday. Of course I know you already know that. I'm linking you to one of my favorite graphic forecast loops. The times are Pacific Standard.

I hope that you recover quickly feeling much better each day.
