Crazy searches

I haven't done a list in a while... of some of the crazy searches that people have used and found my blog. Of course, recent searches have been full of Valdosta flood and Woodstock tornado... but before all that, I had some doozies... here goes:

Searches that result in complete Dew-ness!
  1. Do storm trackers die very often No, it doesn't happen often. Storm chasers learn about weather and know what is happening around them. Most are trained SKYWARN® spotters, who are watching the weather with a dual purpose... 1. because they are passionate about it. 2. to aid the Weather Service, emergency management and news media is protecting life and property. Good storm chasing results in storm viewing from a safe distance.

  2. SNOW in south Georgia Where?! When?!

  3. will it ever snow in south Georgia Gosh, I hope not!!

  4. Georgia snowball definition "A snowball is a spherical object made from frozen water or snow, usually created by scooping snow with the hands, and compacting it into a roughly fist-sized ball." As far as I know, that definition doesn't vary by state.

  5. tornadoe pictures from Arkanasa And they think taking spelling out of the curriculum in Georgia schools is a good idea?!

  6. serious tornadoes As opposed to????

  7. storm chasing rocket Hmmm...

  8. south Georgia storm chaser That's me! dewdropweather.com

  9. "storm chaser" God Spirit What?!

  10. What do storm chasers do on long car journeys Well, I guess eat, watch radar, chat with friends... eat, watch radar, chat with friends...

  11. what motivates a storm chaser I think each has their own motivation, but I am driven by my passion for weather. Many of my encounters with nature's fury and other things in the sky have left me feeling a broader spiritual fulfillment. It generally brings me an incredible feeling of peace to encounter nature in any way.

  12. storm chasers are jerks who says?! Some people are jerks, and some people are storm chasers, and some people who happen to be storm chasers are jerks, but that is not the norm. I have met some very great people who happen to be non-jerk storm chasers.

  13. shelf cloud with face ... yeah...

  14. what's the probability of a torn I go to this site and hover over the tornado tab, and the probabilities for tornadoes according to the Storm Prediction Center is reflected graphically on the map. Incidentally, there is a 10% chance of tornadoes in Texas today...
  15. what do I need when severe weather strikes Keep your weather radio turned on... listen for specific instructions. Generally, stay indoors, preferably lowest floor or basement, or an interior room without windows.

  16. SDS therapy Supercell Deprivation Syndrome... check out this link

  17. Dewdrops blog dewdropweather.com

  18. sun halo mountain dog a lot of things going on in this search... mountain dog???

  19. what happened to the weather channel You know... I wondered the same, with Jim Cantore in the mornings and now Stephanie Abrams moving to mornings... things are just strange.

  20. what is weather like today in Georgia What a great lead in...
We can expect more of the same, while rain and severe weather pound the plains, day after day, our ridge of high pressure has firmly planted itself over us, leaving very warm, dry and yes, BORING WEATHER here in the southeast. I'm relieved for the Valdosta flood victims who are currently jumping through FEMA red-tape hoops, trying to get much needed aid to help them recover and rebuild after EVERYTHING they had, has been lost... walls ripped out, floors ripped out, fortunately, the studs have had time to dry out and be chemically treated against mold and mildew growth, which also has to dry. My continued prayers go out to them...

Speaking of the flood, during all that, I was in contact with a local who stumbled onto my blog trying to find information about my wonderful groom's parents' neighborhood, where one of her co-workers lives... but was out of town for the flood. Well, she and I shared correspondence during all that, and I ran into her this weekend! Small world... in fact, she and their neighbor were both out at this community church event out at the park, which my wonderful groom and I attended, and the neighbor thanked me and said that my pictures were very helpful for insurance purposes. How awesome!

Have a beautiful day, rising above the mucky muck,

Oh the weather outside is... sunny and warm?

Well, we went from having a record cold fall to having warm spring-like weather... while the rest of the country deals with arctic air masses, ice storms and blizzards... almost makes me feel bad... almost. All my dear friends, suffering in the cold... I'd blow you some warm air, but if I move this ridge out of here, there will be nothing to protect me from Dewdrop-cicle-ness. We can't have that, so in lieu of that, you're welcome to come and stay with me. I had another lovely sky leaving the office yesterday. That's the shot above, but here are some interesting shots to go along with it.It was a lovely ride to Mini-Dew's practice, which we ended up leaving because she was a little "under the weather". Yep, SDS will do that to you. Looks like a little cold taunting her. I just hope she doesn't share.

Since my weather is boring, and everyone else's is too cold for me to talk about without getting frostbitten fingers, I will just share the newest list of searches the resulted in complete Dew-ness.

  1. Another name for storm chaser: Since I started this a copy of years ago, people have used a few words to describe a storm chaser... but I won't repeat them here.
  2. the big bad storm picture: You know... the big bad one...(?!)
  3. mac ministorm chasing: That's as opposed to the mac ministorm.
  4. ideas for storm chasing weddings: The idea has merit. If the weather is right, it just might be that...
  5. www.dewdrops.com: Folks, it's www.dewdropweather.com
  6. dewdrops: Awesome! Thanks for looking.
  7. where get spotter id cards: If your National Weather Service offers them, once you go through Spotter training, you will receive one. Check with your office at www.weather.gov
  8. skills and training you need to become a storm chaser: A willingness to learn all you can.
  9. Georgia storm chaser: Yes, I am.
  10. storm minnow: Are they looking for the SS Minnow??? It was only supposed to be a 3 hour tour.
  11. "ma ma ma" it's: You built the suspense. It's WHAT?!
  12. I'm dreaming.swf: ... of a white Christmas.
  13. where I can play money storm online: Here, I found a great link for you.
  14. photografy of bears chassers and old man of world: WHAT?! Are you kidding me? What are you talking about?

A little SDS Therapy for the Midwest before Hybernation sets in...

Well, with a historic turn out and President-Elect Obama earning more votes than any other candidate in history, people are recovering from varying emotions. I have resigned myself to putting my prayers behind the man who was elected. He is not there accidentally. Of course, the leading stories at TWC were Marshall Seese's retirement and Barack's position on the climate?! Good grief.

OK, OK, enough about that. My blog is starting to look entirely too political!!! Back to weather...
...that area in the western Caribbean near Cape Thanks to God... I mean Cabo Gracios a Dios... has got, now a high probability of development and is expected to at least be designated as a Tropical Depression within the next couple of days. Recon flight is standing by...

Aside from that, check it out folks... we now have a moderate risk area outlined for the midwest. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this might be the first of the secondary season.

AREA WILL BE UPGRADED TO A MODERATE RISK AT 1630Z.

12Z MODEL DATA ARE CONSISTENT WITH 00Z HIGH RESOLUTION DATA SETS IN SUGGESTING THAT THE MOST INTENSE TSTM DEVELOPMENT WILL LIKELY OCCUR OVER S-CNTRL/SERN KS INTO N-CNTRL/NERN OK LATER THIS AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT. THIS STORM ACTIVITY WILL BE FOCUSED FROM NEAR THE TRIPLE POINT OF COLD FRONT/DRYLINE SWD WHERE STORM MODE IS EXPECTED TO BE MORE DISCRETE IN NATURE. THE COMBINATION OF MODERATE INSTABILITY AND RATHER STRONG LOW-LEVEL SHEAR SUGGESTS THE POTENTIAL FOR LONGER-LIVED SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF A STRONG TORNADO OR TWO.
My friend, Oklahoma Steve is planning to go out for some SDS therapy before the long winter months. Best wishes to Steve and all the other chasers going after a much more charged event than originally expected. The outlook for today with the Storm Prediction Center has not been updated today, but you can click on the link to check it out once it has been. That said, it's time for the new list of
Searches that have resulted in complete DEW-ness!

  1. Marshall Seese
  2. Marshall Seese, how old? (Wow, how am I getting hits for this guy before today???)
  3. Can't wait to move to Georgia (Must be all the great weather... NOT!)
  4. Tornado vs. hurricane vs. twister (A tornado and a twister are the same... a hurricane is a huge broad area of circulation, only visible as such in satellite images... can be about 300 times the size of a tornado or twister.)
  5. Sky Diving Wedding Georgia Mountains (Are you NUTS?! Who skydives in the mountains?!)
  6. Quest for gtb (Dearest gtb, don't arrange for a skydiving wedding... that is not your quest!)
  7. My life as a storm chaser (Storm chaser life rocks!)
  8. Who travels with a storm chaser (Why? You wanna come along?)
  9. Georgia Tornado Chasers (Is that a club? I want to join!!)
  10. Dangerous chasers of the world(Wait for it....)
  11. Storm chaser fatalities (yikes...)
  12. How does dew looks in autumn weather (Well, pretty bundled up. I am not a big fan of cold, so I layer a lot. I don't want to risk turning into a dewdropcicle... or heaven forbid... FROST... EEK!)
There you have it... people never cease (not Seese) to amaze me.Have a lovely autumn dew day...

All eyes on Ike's eye... and the possible return of Josephine???

Well, it's an unfortunate story with Ike. He barrelled through the Turks and the Caicos as a powerfully dangerous category 4 hurricane causing a wake of destruction. I have heard some staggering figures. One that struck me was the 90% of the structures on the Grand Turk Island were damaged or destroyed by Ike. I also heard that 73 people have been killed in Haiti, and Ike didn't even make landfall in Haiti. The flooding there is extensive, of course... with Gustav, Hanna and now, Ike, how could they not? Now, what is expected with Ike...? Good question. He is currently tearing through Cuba, as a strong category 2 hurricane after making landfall last night as an intensifying category 3 with beautiful symmetry and a powerful and obvious eye. As he has ripped through Cuba's mountainous landscape, he has fed in some dry air, which attempted to work at his symmetry, but he seems to be holding on none-the-less. After making a journey through Cuba, the models have gotten into better alignment, helping boost confidence in what Ike is expected to do.

IT IS STILL TOO SOON TO KNOW WHAT PORTION OF THE GULF COAST WILL ULTIMATELY BE AFFECTED BY IKE.
... but, it looks like Louisiana/Texas is a good bet.
THE OFFICIAL FORECAST AGAIN SHOWS LESS WEAKENING OVER LAND THAN INDICATED BY THE DECAY SHIPS MODEL...IN THE EVENT THAT THE CENTER EMERGES OVER WATER SOONER THAN FORECAST. THE ENVIRONMENT IN THE GULF IS EXPECTED TO BE VERY CONDUCIVE TO RESTRENGTHENING WITH A VERY DIFLUENT LIGHT SHEAR UPPER WIND PATTERN AND WARM WATERS BELOW. THE MAJOR UNKNOWN IS HOW DISRUPTED IKE WILL BE WHEN IT EMERGES.

Is Josephine the comeback kid? Looks like though Josephine fizzled out over the Atlantic over the weekend... she has been holding on to her low and popping up intermittent showers and storms. Though her environment at the current time does not support redevelopment, down the line, the environment favors her reforming in a couple of days... we might not have seen the last of Josephine, yet.

OK... it's been a while and my list is full... but here is yet another entertaining list of the things people have typed into their search engine to find me. Some of these literally had me rolling!
Searches that have resulted in complete DEW-ness!

  1. NWS Tallahassee Spotter test answers (Cheater!!!! You're not going to get answers on my site. You need to study!)
  2. Weather lesson plan swf (Did you get any useful ideas...?)
  3. Dewdrop tornados (Must be a new type I have never heard of... ;O) )
  4. www.dew is blog spot.com (Seriously, people? I think they were specifically after me... to help you out... it's http://www.dewdropweather.com/)
  5. South Georgia Storm Chaser (also in this group was "Tropical Storm Chasing", "Weird Hurricane Chasers" and "Crazy Hurricane Chaser") (That's me, or it will be. Big cheese grin.)
  6. Is Fay turning around and coming back to Ga? (Sort of... yeah.)
  7. Several asking "Should I cancel my trip to Disney World Fay", "Hurricane Hanna Destroy Disney World" and "Should we cancel our trip to Disney because of Fay and Gustav" (I would say let me consult my crystal ball, but apparently someone looked for that too... check out the next...)
  8. What do fortune tellers predict about Gustav (alrighty then... if you found out something, I hope you got with those other folks)
  9. Does South Georgia have school tomorrow? (Pretty broad question...)
  10. Tornadoes that look like Jesus (blink, blink... huh?)
  11. Strange bright light over Jacksonville, Florida August 21st (again, blink, blink... huh?)
  12. Dangerous Photography Trips (This makes more sense to me... I try not to be dangerous, though.)
  13. Can a tornado form from a cloudless sky (The immediate answer is no since tornadoes are attached to a cloud base by definition; however, clouds can pop up in a cloudless sky in the right environment and form tornadoes seemingly out of nowhere... hence the expressions "Out of the clear blue sky..." and "Out of the blue..." I liked that one. Thanks!)
  14. Can a helicopter stop on a cloud (oh my... "A cloud is a visible mass of water droplets, (or other condensed liquid form of gas) or frozen crystals floating in the atmosphere above the surface of the Earth or another planetary body." NO! A helicopter cannot stop on a cloud! A cloud is just wet air.)
  15. What really happens at boy scout camp (WHAT?!)
Alrighty then... Here is my sky over the weekend... nice cirrus.
Haiti, the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, has endured the onslaught of four tropical storms in a three-week period. Heavy rains and flooding sparked by the outer bands of Hurricane Ike killed at least 61 people in Cabaret, to the north of the capital Port-au-Prince. "The whole village is flooded," said local civil protection official Moise Jean-Pierre. "The death toll could go higher." The destruction in Haiti has been described as catastrophic.

Police said 500 people were confirmed dead from recent Tropical Storm Hanna while others were still missing and the number could rise. The newly installed Prime Minister, Michele Pierre Louis, has launched a fresh appeal for international aid. He called in particular for helicopters to bring those left stranded by the floods to safety. ~source
God be with those dealing with Ike!!!

Tropical Storm Edouard makes landfall!

Well, there you have it folks, strong Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall this morning about 20 miles southwest of Port Arthur, TX. During the overnight hours, Edouard ramped up his intensity as he skirted along the Louisiana coast, getting up to 65mph sustained winds, around a tight area of circulation. Tropical Storm Edouard has been a relatively small tropical cyclone, which oftentimes, generates a bit more uncertainty with trajectory... I tried to warn y'all... Since the winds didn't ramp up much with this guy, it looks like the big story with Edouard will be the buckets and buckets of rain that will fall on the upper Texas coast and the southwestern Louisiana coast. We know that Louisiana already has low lying issues and that is one big concern. Some areas of Louisiana have been evacuated in anticipation of flooding in those low-lying regions. Generally, though, this area can use the rainfall, so all should be good in the long run, thanks to Edouard. Looks like Edouard is planning to take the scenic tour of Texas, ending around Steve Miller's neck of the woods... again, my pleasure, Steve. Granted, that's the official trajectory... looks to me like ol' Edouard wants to head a little more westward, probably thinking all that land is crampin' his style.

Onto other things...
Christine pointed out to me (and blogged about) yesterday that they have gotten a confirmed tornado count for May of 447, bringing the annual total through May to 994 tornadoes... just to put some perspective on that... last year's total (FOR THE WHOLE YEAR, which includes the secondary tornado season in the fall) was 1,085 tornadoes.

Given the changes observed between the preliminary numbers and the numbers appearing in Storm Data, an estimated curve has been added for 2008 to date. This curve is based on an approximate 30% reduction in the preliminary numbers.

Man, that chart has been blowing me out of the water since the first time I saw it. We knew it would be a wild year from the start... the outcome hasn't disappointed. Ironically, Christine also pointed out that, at that point in our discussion, there had been no August tornadoes... well, lo and behold, 2 tornadoes were reported yesterday in Illinois and Indiana, and this morning over 200,000 households were still without power. So much for no August tornadoes... I am going to guess that the final confirmed total for 2008 will be at about 1600, which overshoots the 10 year average by 330 tornadoes. YIKES!

Now, I have decided to share with you... once again... for your reading pleasure...

Searches that have resulted in complete DEW-ness!

  1. Rotating Scud Clouds (Looks like you might have a wall cloud on your hands... you should call the NWS, not check my blog....)

  7. What does the skies look like during a hurricane(grey, cloudy... You shouldn't really be out looking at it, unless you're crazy like me.)
  8. Why is the sky blue near a hurricane? (oh, I know this one... a hurricane draws in all the nearby moisture for use in its tropical fury. As it draws the nearby convection into its system, it leaves the air dry, offering the beautiful blue "hurricane sky".)
  9. What does it mean when the sky turns yellow during a storm? (sheesh, all these sky color questions... Here's an answer link)
  10. Jim Cantore Weather Channel south padre hotel storm (sorry, mfg... :OD)
