The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Chasing the sun and the moon...

Woke up this morning with a throbbing head, not a huge surprise, I went to bed with incredible pain shooting through my neck and shoulders. Sounds like the stress of the season has kicked in for me. I'm hoping blogging will relax my head... It usually calms me to blog.

Last night, I had every intention of trying to see the launch from here... sometimes when conditions are right, you can see it from this far away. I would imagine a night launch would be even easier to see, probably looking similar to a fluttering star. I was fully prepared. Then, wouldn't you know it... at the exact moment that I was about to go outside - 8:40 (to allow myself time to find a good SSE view), the folk choir stands up front at the dinner to put on a nice little concert, which they do annually. It's something I always look forward to, but this time I was torn... I didn't want to be rude to the folk choir and walk out. I adore them all. I mean, they actually sang at my wedding because I enjoy them so much. We attend the service that they sing at because we truly enjoy their sound and style, and like I said, every year, I look forward to listening and singing along with the show. This year, it just so happened that they were singing "Rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up Jeruselum" at the exact moment that the space shuttle was launched into space. I truly missed my calling... if only I weren't claustrophobic, asthmatic and prone to motion sickness and extreme vertigo, I would so be an astronaut...lol I was able to watch a phenomenal video shot by a weather videographer out of south Florida... He actually went to the Space Center for the launch. It is truly amazing. Watch the Video here...Weathervine Video Link and and his blog site is pretty awesome too... Weathervine Blog I have especially enjoyed his description of hurricane chasing, something I look forward to doing someday... yet somehow, I hear this voice in my head saying, "You don't chase hurricanes, they chase you!" An important factor to consider... but to experience the power...

Today, the sun sets at 5:31. I think I might chase the sun today. It should be perfect weather for it, partly cloudy, not too cold. Last night, the view of the moon at about 10 PM was spectacular. It was just above the horizon, which meant that it was mostly obscured by trees. It was brilliant, glowing orange, and the illusion was that it was huge... sort of reminded me of that bit in "Bruce Almighty" where Jim Carey pulled the moon closer for the sake of creating a romantic atmosphere for his girlfiend and him. Truly awesome! Unfortunately, we were traveling home and couldn't get to a good viewing range in time. I did drop off hubby and darling daughter to go after it... chasing the moon now... (I guess I am an equal opportunity chaser), and I got to a spot where I had a clear view, but it had come up, lost some of its orange glow, and it no longer appeared so large. I shot off tons of pics, playing with my settings, trying to get a good shot at least, but it wasn't working for me the way I would have liked. (sigh) Someday, I will have a camera that performs up to my wants... Until then, I dare to dream and try to make do with what I've got. ;-)

That's all I've got. I will try to post the sun and moon pics tomorrow. As predicted, my head feels much better.

Have a great Sunday!

  2. You're welcome, JG, and thanks! You've got a great blog. I especially loved your launch footage. It was a great benefit to me since I was stuck singing Christmas carols... I can't get over the alligators hanging out. That's crazy. Thanks for stopping by.
