The update is out. Dean means business as he has intensified offering 90mph winds and a minimum central pressure of 979mb. He is almost at the windspeeds needed to be designated as a Category 2 Hurricane. I will continue to monitor. The forecast track seems to just scrape the Yucatan peninsula, and it is offering more of a northward turn. If that thing turns into the center of the Gulf, it could go anywhere.
I'll be keeping an eye on this guy...
2:00 Update: After the recon flight made it in. The pressure is down to 970mb.
ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS. A NEW STEPPED-FREQUENCY MICROWAVE RADIOMETER INSTRUMENT ON BOARD OF THE AIR FORCE RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT JUST MEASURED 90 MPH...150 KM/HR SURFACE WINDS WHILE MAKING ITS FIRST ENTRANCE TO THE HURRICANE.~Dewdrop
It will be a major hurricane tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI really believe Dean is gonna be a Monster Hurricane...if it hits that Yucatan Gap and the Loop Current I see it becoming a Cat4-5 and everyone in the Gulf will be in play....Think Rita...Wilma...Charlie. Next week will be this will be a huge story.
