the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Tornado-fest... in October????

The part that really stinks is that I have to drive in all this mess. I am not all that happy about that. Last night depressed me. I caught part of a thunderstorm with a phenomenal light show that I couldn't do anything about since I was carting kids from practice to home, but it was a pleasure to see. Basically, that was all we got out of that "SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK" yesterday, the lightning and the wonderful rain that was desperately needed. I was already able to tell a difference in my shower pressure. That felt good this morning... I provided some radar support yesterday, though, for Alabama Mike, who successfully intercepted a rotating wall cloud!!! Way to go, Mike! At least if I didn't get anything, someone did! Today, the SPC still has a large part of the eastern CONUS under a slight risk for severe weather, and wouldn't you know it, my destination this afternoon is no longer within that area... figures. Dewvoid strikes again. Locally, widespread cloud cover should limit instability, but this morning, I was actually able to watch the sunrise, so you never know. Word from the SPC is:

DEEP LAYER SHEAR OF 35 TO 45 KT WILL SUPPORT POTENTIAL FOR ORGANIZED STORMS INCLUDING SUPERCELLS AND LINE SEGMENTS WITH BOW ECHOES. THE MAIN THREATS WILL BE ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND/TORNADOES. SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS REQUESTED TODAY.
Sounds pretty exciting. They are talking about supercells, bowing segments, and tornadoes, and I will be driving away from it. It's almost a certain thing that there will be some nice supercells and possibly a tornado. That's how this whole Dewvoid thing works.

What's really exciting though is yesterday... an October storm that generated over 40 tornadoes in 7 states?! The SPC has much smaller numbers, but I heard mine on TWC, so you know it's accurate... (cough, cough) I also heard 3 fatalities. Such a rare October event. If I can get blogger to cooperate (it's not being cooperative, but they are aware of and working on the problem... a whole lotta good that does me.), I will post the storm report map. Ah, yes, there we go. Another big story is the flooding in the FL panhandle. Some areas down by the coast there, where they saw an EF1 tornado, saw more than 12 inches of rain so far. This is definitely going to put a dent in their deficit.

Here we go... signs of the Dewvoid hard at work... the update from the guys is out:
DISCUSSION...MORE MUCH NEEDED RAINFALL IS WELL UNDERWAY ACROSS THE REGION THIS MORNING...AS BANDS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE TO POUR IN FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO. WITH VERY LIMITED WIND SHEAR AND LITTLE OPPORTUNITY FOR ANY INSOLATION...THE THREAT FOR ANY SEVERE STORMS IS DECREASING STEADILY WITH TIME.
Good grief. My severe weather chances are dwindling before my eyes... Hopefully, I will get some photography opportunities today. Here's hoping...

It's Friday, live it up. If I can find Wifi, I will update.

Update 10:30: My weather radio just freaked out my entire office when it announced a threat of water spouts over the Oklochnee River. lol

Toodles,

  1. JUst not seeing it today..Nothing but heavy rain. A few spinups along the leading edge where it looks like a bow echo is trying to form along the coast. Oh well...Dewvoid at work...;-)

  2. Not the Dewvoid!!! The lack of sunshine and a heavy cloud deck leads me to believe that little to no instability is going to develop and today will be a rain even with little to no thunder....i'm still hoping I'm wrong. If it comes down to it I will post pictures of just rain to improve my overall chasing morale.

  4. The good thing to see is alot of rainfall down there. The news stories about running totally out of water down there is pretty darned scary...especially with no viable contingency plan.

  5. Yes, the Dewvoid struck again, so in response I went on weather strike. I didn't have wifi on my trip up to Callaway Gardens. I didn't even have real time to explore the gardens, I had such a booked agenda. I did a little driving around and stuff, and I took a brief excursion at a point, but all in all... not what I had hoped... and weather non-existent. Dewvoid...

    I hope you're right Annie.

Steve, that is true, the rain is a blessing. Way to offer up some perspective.

I will update tomorrow. I have some funny stories from my trip. I am too tired to blog right now. Eyes are getting heavy. Toodles.
