the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Winter Wallop and an upcoming chasetunity???

Once again, Mini-Dew got that stomach virus, making it a second appearance in a week. It must have just gone briefly dormant... what a hassle. She is better now, and things are sort of returning to normal. This morning, we had yet another day of super densely foggy conditions, which has actually taken quite some time to lift this morning.

TWC has gone absolutely batty over the "Winter Wallop" storm that has walloped all over the northern part of the country. Nine inches of s*** in Boston... gee, shame I don't live there anymore (kidding). They can have it!!! The main discussion is the one-two punch. They aren't going to have an opportunity to recover from the first storm before this "wallop" storm bulldozes its way through. (Even Jim Cantore has been deployed for this one...) It should impact us this time. A trough setting up over the Northeast will aid in the development of a powerful system over the plains, combining with an approaching significant cold front, and the tropical moisture feeding in from the remnants of Tropical Storm Olga, we should get some significant rain with this event... just before our temps bottom out. It will begin to feel a lot like Christmas. We could get some widely scattered thunderstorms, but rain is at least a good bet... The severe weather potential is under scrutiny. Basically, it could go either way, depending on timing and how all the elements mesh.

INCREASED BOUNDARY LAYER FLOW AND DEEP LYR SHEAR OVER CWA. AT LEAST MARGINAL SURFACE BASED INSTABILITY. DESTABILIZATION AND MOISTURE RECOVERY AND UNIMPRESSIVE H5 LAPSE RATES MAY NOT BE SUFFICIENT TO GENERATE SEVERE STORMS. MOISTURE FROM OLGA MAY PROMOTE DEEP CLOUD COVER FURTHER LIMITING SEVERE WX POTENTIAL. ON THE OTHER HAND...IMPRESSIVE SHEAR WIND PROFILES MAY BE SUFFICIENT FOR SUPERCELLS WITH DAMAGING WINDS. WITH SUCH UNCERTAINTY...SPC STILL KEEPS AREA ONLY IN GENERAL TSTM RISK AND WILL NOT HIGHLIGHT SEVERE WX IN FORECAST (BUT WILL MENTION POSSIBILITY IN HWO).
So there you have it... the official position. What the SPC actually said caught my attention. They have offered some text because too many elements just aren't coming together for a widespread event warranting a categorical risk; however, they do mention the "T" word.
OPTIMAL DESTABILIZATION WOULD HELP TO SUPPORT TORNADO AND PERHAPS WIND THREAT...BUT AS WITH ABOVE AREA...IT IS TOO CONDITIONAL FOR CATEGORICAL RISK ATTM.
I'll have to keep my eyes on this one. Tomorrow could be a chase day... Interesting. I'll need to be on the ball cleaning my house early. Figures... one chase partner is up in Byron shooting quail, the other is driving an ambulance.

I tried to shoot the sunset on Wednesday, but due to some traffic, I was unable to get to a good viewing spot in time... this is what I did catch... including a shot of the frustrating traffic that stopped my shot. Grrr... I have two Christmas parties today, and a third payroll run to get out, so I'd better get going. I will leave you with this thought that struck me today... don't know who to credit with this one... but it's one of my favorites.
Don't tell God how big your storm is. Tell the storm how big your God is.
TGIF!!!

  1. Great quote!!! Reminds me of the verse I was using for my devotional this a.m.:

Jeremiah 32:17 "Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee..."

  5. They're not all that, just add to the Christmas hustle bustle stress in most cases. My party last night was pretty awesome though.
