HAPPY EASTER!!! HALLELUJAH, CHRIST IS RISEN!!

I hope that everyone is having/has had a WONDERFUL EASTER!!! Well, it has been a splendid Easter weekend for me. It started on Friday when bf took me on a mystery date to the drive-in movie theater in Jesup, GA. I had it pretty much figured out, but that's ok because the idea of going to a drive-in movie thrilled me! I have never been to one before... seriously! So... along the way, there were a few things from my list of things to photograph, which we stopped for... the barn, the church and the water tower... three of my planned excursions within 100 yards of each other... then, we looked up to see that there was a brilliant full and orange moon rising on the horizon.

Well, as we were driving along on the highway we had recently been storm chasing on, I said (half jokingly), since we'll be most of the way there, we should just drive on to Savannah afterward, to which bf responded... OK. I was flabbergasted. I was, of course, interested in doing it, but never (I REPEAT... NEVER!) have I ever done anything so completely spontaneous. I had nothing except the clothes on my back. After a quick arrangement with dear son's sweet gf, who I adore, the doggone dog was taken care of... and we were on our way to my first drive-in movie, and then we were on our way to Savannah!!! We "borrowed" the wifi at Burger King to book a hotel and went to the movies. We saw part of "Horton Hears a Who", but I was more interested in "Drillbit Taylor", which was on the screen behind us... and we watched that till "Fool's Gold" came on, which ended up boring us to tears. We had missed most of "Vantage Point" at that point, so we headed to Wally World for some bare necessities for our Savannah Adventure... and we were on our way. So exciting!

In Savannah, we visited the St. John the Baptist Cathedral, toured River Street, visiting several of the shops and trying yummy warm pralines along the way, listened to some soothing sax playing some great jazz tunes, while sipping on a frozen White Russian (which was pretty powerful), caught a regularly priced private horse-drawn carriage tour of the city, where the driver sought out blooming wisteria, just for me... which doesn't happen to be blooming in Savannah just yet... darn, ate at the River Street Cafe or something like that, where we enjoyed some of the best lobster bisque I have ever had, some creamy bleu cheese butter on some fresh bread, praline cheesecake... We left there and headed to Tybee Island, where we explored the lighthouse, walked on the beach and put our toes in the water. What a wonderful sponateous trip! I had a magnificent time! Here is a photo summary...

Now, I would be really slacking if I didn't share some of the weather related shots. The weather was perfect in Savannah this weekend. I was wearing shorts. We rode to Tybee Island with the top down... but I was still able to capture the "weatherwise" side of my trip... I think it's important to point out here that this giant globe has a mural of a hurricane just outside of Savannah painted on it. I have been intrigued by that thing since I was in the 8th grade, when I took my first trip to Savannah. Then, of course, there is signage...

Bf was so sweet in noticing the Thunderbolt sign while we were entering that city (who knew there was a Thunderbolt, GA???). He actually turned around and went back to the bridge to let me shoot a pic of the sign. I found the hurricane sign on my own. Have you got a plan???? Hurricane season is just around the corner!!

Well, that's it for me today and I might just tack onto this post tomorrow, since it's so long. Hope everyone is having a great Easter!!!

Toodles,
~Dewdrop

P.S. Update 3/24 9:00AM: Well, woke up to unseasonably cold and windy weather here in south Georgia, and they are expected to drop even more tonight. Brrr... The cold front came in with a dry (not even trace precipitation amounts... I feel gyped)blast raising fire dangers today throughout the southeast. The good news is that this is short-lived. By the end of the week, heck, the middle of the week, we should be back to climo. Have a great day!!!

  3. Happy Easter, Courtney! I hope it was terrific for you! I definitely feel like more of those spontaneous trips are in order. It was awesome just to do it. I truly did have a wonderful time, and girl, let me tell you... those pralines were so warm, they melted in our mouths... scrumptious!

Tom, Thanks! Wow. Your comment is incredibly kind. Bf is definitely a southern gentleman... I let him know you said hi. :O) All the best back to you and your wife.

  4. Hi, found your site through link on Jeff Gammons site.

Have to say, it's nice to see a female name and website after going through so many males. ;-) And an informative and nice website at that!

Keep up the spontaneity, it is a good contagious!

  6. Hey Christine, Thanks for stopping by. Jeff is a great guy, and I respect him tremendously as a storm chaser, but it is great to learn of female chasers/weather enthusiasts out there. You've got some great pics out there.

Rick, I am living a lot and loving every minute of it. They put a tacky neon sign on the globe... can you believe that?!

  7. Glad you both had such a great time! Brings back memories for me too of my own spontaneous trip to Savannah.

B/f seems like a great guy to go out of his way to let you do your thing. That is a great place to visit and I am glad you got to dew it! Someday you should try "Lady and Sons" restaurant.

  8. This is one of your coolest posts! I love the shot of the church that looks like a castle. I also like the one with the "world" behind you. I will spare you my corny jokes about the bunny shot...I would really love to know the story behind how that town got the name "Thunder Bolt." The guy playing the sax is going to contact you next week and demand royalties for using his likeness...hahaha. You're blog is getting SO big. That's okay...I'm not jealous, I have my three avid readers, and that's all of my insanity that needs to be spread!

  9. Mike, I remember you telling me about your trips down in South Georgia. Savannah is a great city to visit, such a wonderful historic charm. I love it. Bf is exceptionally supportive of my photography habit. It is wonderful. I am very appreciative. Funny you should mention Lady and Sons. We were actually headed there after the carriage ride, but they had just closed between lunch and dinner, and the dinner list was already booked. We will have to do that some time.

Annie, One of my coolest posts??? Wow. Thanks! I have a few more pics of the Savannah Cathedral that I think I will post. Gosh, I hope the sax guy doesn't want royalties. Of course, 10% of nothing is nothing... so people, click on those ads... will ya, huh? I love keeping this blog. It's so much fun, and I have met so many wonderful people through it. I love your blog, and I maintain my position that you should write a column for the paper.

  10. Hey..a little facts about that globe in Savannah...When it was originally painted, Australia was painted upside down...it was corrected in 1999. When it was repainted in 1999, it was painted to look the way the earth would from space and the hurricane was painted going clockwise...which was also later corrected. Just fun facts...in the Strange but True Georgia book by Lynne Hall... Thought you might like it.

  11. The park bench that Tom Hanks sits on in Forrest Gump is in historic Savannah, Georgia, at Chippewa Square. The fiberglass bench he sat on has since been removed and placed into a museum to avoid being destroyed by the weather. The church where the feather first falls is about 100 yards just down the street from his bench. The bench is currently held in the Savannah History Museum, Savannah, Georgia.

Did you see that? That was one of my top 5 movies of all time! I am Forrest and you know who is Jen-nay.

    Kinda sad, but true..........

  12. I did see Forrest Gump but not the bench... Gee, I wonder who Jen-nay would be. Yes, sad, but I understand.... just so we're clear folks, not me.

    Jen, Thanks! Very interesting. :O)
