the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

WELCOME SPRING!!!

Well, it's the first day of Spring!!! Welcome warmer weather, brilliantly bright and beautiful spring flowers... and instability!!! Yes, severe weather season should be kicking it in to high gear. With the start we have had this year, it will be interesting to see where it goes from here. I posted the trend yesterday. The tornado count has nowhere to go... but up.

In honor of the first day of Spring, and in an effort to bring brightness into the lives of some of my s**w-bound friends out there checking in... I decided to leave a little early this morning, and drive through the "Azalea City" to take pictures of what Spring looks like in my neck of the woods. The first one (above) is my absolute favorite from this morning...

1. I love Purple. It my absolute favorite color.
2. Wisteria is such an interesting vine. It grows like kudzu, but offers this beautiful blossom for just a brief season. I love to travel to Savannah Georgia when Wisteria is in bloom. Those beautiful homes, draped with a curtain of wisteria... breath-taking... If only I were a gardener...
Anyways, here are my photographs of Spring in south Georgia. (Please pardon the cropping on some. I was in a hurry, so I didn't have the time to compose the shots as I would have liked, and I had to get rid of some of the junk.)This one is actually from a potted Japanese Magnolia in my yard that I desperately need to plant, but I cannot decide on a location that suits me, so there it sits...This lily is from a bundle of many, many more that popped up early this year in my backyard. This is also from my yard. The Bradford Pear trees are in full bloom, so much that the petals are now covering the yards in my neighborhood after the ferocious wind we experienced yesterday. That one in the back that is slightly larger is the one in my neigbor's yard that was struck by lightning (while I was in the backyard shooting lightning-a little too close) back in August 2006. Here is a link to the blog about that... I caught the lightning strike though... :O) By the way, folks, if you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck, so GET INDOORS!Yep, all that just by taking a slight detour to work this morning, and I still arrived on time! We have a short reprieve from the stormy weather, so I personally plan to make it a point of getting out and shooting some of the beauty that surrounds me over the course of the fabulously spring-like Easter weekend. Of course, having had a cold front just invade the region, we should have a cool night tonight, but things should rebound quickly with temps being beautiful for most of the weekend. A dry cold front will approach Saturday night, which will briefly dip temps, and then another approaches Sunday/Monday, which could offer some chance rain to the forecast on those days... at this time, the models aren't agreeing. I guess we will see what happens.

Happy Spring everyone!!

  1. Awesome springy pics! I am inspired and as soon as I get well, I am going to follow your lead and capture some springtime pics in my neck of the woods. Pollen be darned!

  2. I can see the headlines now, "Suspicious Masked-Photographer spotted in Central Florida". Capture the moments... then, they can live on forever. I really hope you get well soon. Thanks for the compliment, glad to inspire.

  3. Awesome pictures, Dew! Spring is definitely inspirational! I just wish we had spring here in North Texas. Instead, everything goes from brown to a kind of greenish-brown. If we are lucky, like last year, we will get plenty of rain and everything will actually turn a deep, bright green!

  4. Thanks, Ken! I love photographing nature, such a peaceful start to my day it was. Sorry you don't have spring... watching TWC this morning, looked to me like you had a huge wild fire to contend with and major wind to help fuel it. I sure hope they contain it quickly.

I might complain about my geographical misplacement for severe weather's sake... but our spring is absolutely beautiful; the world truly is God's canvas.

  5. Yes, that will be me in the mask! The best shots always involve pollen somehow! If you ever want to kill me off you can just send a flying squadron of attack geese equipped with goldenrod. No nuclear warfare needed! The feathers and plants will be quite enough.

  6. Death by Goldenrod... sounds like an interesting book title. Is it on your bucket list? lol

  7. Lovely blossoms all around. I didn't quite catch what the tree was with the white blossoms? Thanks for your thoughtfulness. :)

  8. Dew, I have fallen down on the job. I drove through deep in the heart of Alabama country yesterday. On my way to finding a shortcut to picking my boys up from school I saw the most beautiful scenery. Rolling hills, farms, woods, and so much color. All without a camera.

You should have seen the acres and acres of fields covered in purple clover. You would have been in purple heaven. It was nothing short of awesome!

  9. Looking forward to severe weather season kicking it into high gear??!! Its been in high gear. I havent seen a season like this since 2000. So I guess this could mean that the Dewvoid is dead after all...;-)

  11. Beth Ellen, Thanks. I saw that more s**w is expected up your way. I sure hope you get a taste of spring soon! I don't have a clue what that white blossom tree is.

Mike, We have several of those purple clover fields here... heck, my yard was one until I just recently mowed it. It certainly is breath-taking... Camera-less?! Inconceivable!

Rick, According to trends in tornadic activity based on all the historic data, we are far from peak activity. If that trend maintains the slope, it will be a HECK of a year, meaning... YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET! The Dewvoid is way gone!

John, Thanks! Love your wild azalea picture. I am not a huge fan of azaleas, but I have NEVER seen any like that. Where did you find that one?

  12. Beautiful pictures! All we have so far are daffodils... at least that's all that I've noticed, lol. I can't wait for all the blooms!
Very curious (and a little scared) to see what the rest of 'tornado season' brings after reading your previous post!

  13. Daffodils are gorgeous though. We don't get too many of those down here... much more prevolant (how do you spell that?) up your way. Don't be scared, just be aware. Tornado awareness makes a huge difference.
