OK, does anyone else find this as intriguing as I do?! This morning, before I woke up, Tropical Storm Bertha was moving along in the Atlantic, looking mighty fine as a strong tropical storm. At 5AM, they designated her a Hurricane... suggesting at the 11AM advisory that... oh, let me quote them...SOME STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS...AND BERTHA COULD BECOME A CATEGORY TWO HURRICANE LATER TODAY OR TONIGHT.
OK, well, guess what folks... that eager hurricane skipped 2 and went straight to a Category 3 designation with 115mph winds and 948mb of pressure. The reason she is such a beauty is because Big Bertha is a MAJOR HURRICANE!!! Boy, the guys sure missed the mark on this one... she wasn't expected to make it past tropical storm initially... now, a category 3 hurricane.
It does appear that she has taken a northward turn to her potential fish-dom, but a major hurricane... wow.
It's funny because I was at the doctor's office when the 5PM advisory was issued, and I had asked Christine to let me know because just looking at pictures, I suspected a STRONG CATEGORY 2... my jaw just about fell off my head when I got the text message from her saying "115mph cat3 948mb 20.1n 52.1 w w-nw@12" (By the way, thanks so much, Christy!) I actually called her to ask if she was joking!!! lol No joke folks. Hurricane Bertha is a category 3 hurricane!

Anyways... toodles,

It was great talking to you, Christy. Thanks for keeping me up-to-date during times of computerlessness. I forwarded the message to Jeff (in case he's not reading my comments.)
ReplyDeleteThanksfully it is turning northward since it is such a destructive storm but I was hoping she would bring in some rain.
ReplyDeleteShe's not likely our shot at some much needed rain. Maybe a later storm... a tropical storm would be ideal.
