Reflecting on a wild weather year...

I hope everyone is recovering well from all the Christmas festivities that the season brings... just in time for New Year's celebrations, right? As far as yearly recaps go... this has been an absolutely insane weather year! From drenching tropical storms, to disastrous hurricanes, to horrific tornadic activity, to raging wildfires, to flooding rains, to parading lines of ice storms... and really things are going out with a bang... while here in the south, things are unseasonably warm (for winter!), wind gust at hurricane strength (hurricanes have sustained winds at the same speed) have been causing a wake of destruction in the northeast, making things almost look like a hurricane passed through Eerie, Pennsylvania... rain and warm temperatures are melting the snow and ice in Illinois, causing significant house flooding in the worst flood in Chicago in recorded history. Tornadoes in Alabama on Christmas Eve... crazy. (The above pic is my solar halo shot from February.)

I, for one, am eager to see what the Happy NEW Year has in store...

  1. Any chance you could push some of that "unseasonably warm" air up towards the Canadian Rockies?

Happy New Year, my friend, wishing you lots of love, peace and good health for you all!

  5. It has been so weird. We've had some heavy snows, then drenching rain, flooding, and the winds have been just un-imaginable! Most of the winds have been gusting at us from the South and that isn't the norm for here.
We've also had between 104" and 140" of snow this season depending where in the snow belt you live. We're expecting 3"-6" of snow tonight, which will really clean things up a bit.
    Have a Happy New Year.
