the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Exploring California

As it turns out, the weather here wasn't horrible. There were a few isolated thunderstorms and showers, and it got ridiculously cold for southern California, but it wasn't bad... granted we went north. We drove up the coastal highway, to San Clemente, where we met with my wonderful groom's cousin. Of course, in typical Dew-style, we stopped 10,000 times along the way for photo ops, turning the one hour drive... into an 8 hour adventure. My favorite stop being in La Jolla Beach at the Children's Pool, which is a walled off, almost lagoon, set up for kids to swim, but the seals took over. There were probably about 50 seals sunning on the beach there. Very cool! If you're bold, ignoring the bacteria warning signs, being certain not to harass them in any way (totally illegal)... you can swim with them.We also sat watching the surfers for a while, very cool. They would study the water and then set up to go after the good ones. It was like they talked to the ocean.
Meanwhile, the biggest tornado outbreak of the year struck the southeast, with a whopping 41 tornado reports. Alabama Mike was out chasing with Alabama John (too hard to link, but check the side-bar). I was getting updates from him and Storm Chasing Mikey, while sipping mimosas in Del Mar, CA, during a patio lunch...

Today, it's off to the zoo!!

  1. Remarkable photos of those seals just sunning themselves on the shore... I just adore their sweet little expressions on their faces!
    Great pictures!

  2. That's the way to ride out a storm - sipping drinks far, far away! Looks like you are having a marvelous trip!

  3. Love the photos. The second one is really cool. :) Thinking of you... :) You are missed!

  4. Michelle, I did too. They were so sweet!!! I could have stayed all day just watching them. SO CUTE!

Lew, well, not exactly my opinion, but it was nice anyway...

    I missed you too, Beth!!
