The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Show me the bacon!!

Well, we had a wallop of a weekend, starting with a late afternoon hefty thunderstorm with reported hail and flash flooding. I didn't witness the hail personally, but I sure tried to... I did experience the urban flash flooding though, which I promptly called into the weather service. I don't know if they ever issued a severe warning, but things definitely got severe in Lowndes County on Friday afternoon, smack dab in the middle of town, during "rush hour" on a Friday afternoon. There were some severe storm reports in this area:

2014Z 1.00" hail
1 W LAKELAND LANIER GA

2050Z 1.00" hail
VALDOSTA LOWNDES GA
NICKEL TO QUARTER SIZE HAIL REPORTED IN CENTRAL VALDOSTA.

2050Z
VALDOSTA LOWNDES GA
TREES AND POWER LINES DOWN IN THE BAY TREE STREET NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR VALDOSTA STATE UNIVERSITY.
So, the sky looked like this...The roads looked like this... (I just held the camera and took a few shots. We were going very slowly over the flooded roads.)... and the tree looked like this...... oh, here's the hail captured by Haley (how ironic), which she described as seeming smaller than 1.5"... (THANK YOU, HALEY!!)... So, that was Friday afternoon...

While I am talking about weather, I should mention that a Cape Verde wave, off the coast of Africa has been given a medium likelihood of development into a tropical cyclone. I just recently posted a detailed blog about August hurricanes. Realize that Andrew got his start as a mid-August Cape Verde storm. Stay tuned. We could very well have the birth of Ana before us.
CONDITIONS STILL APPEAR FAVORABLE FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM...AND IT COULD BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO AS IT MOVES TOWARD THE WEST AT 10 TO 15 MPH. THERE IS A MEDIUM CHANCE...30 TO 50 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.
Yes, 99Invest has a good shot, better than any others since the season began. Granted, this will become TD 2, since we had the one depression in May.

Aside from all that, my wonderful groom and I had the rare pleasure of attending a bacon party... a wha??? Yes, that's right, oink, oink, bacon party. Brittney and Cory hosted a sensational party featuring bacon. All of the guests were challenged to bring a recipe boasting the crowd favorite, BACON! Just the invite caused my arteries to plug up just a wee bit... It was awesome though, everything from bacon-wrapped steak poppers, to candied bacon, to prosciutto wrapped melons, to bacon cheeseburger sliders, to my wonderful groom's bacon ice cream... I shouldn't fail to mention, my personal favorite, the bacon choco-chip macadamia nut cookies... yummy!!! Awards were given to the best flavor and the best presentation. Thanks to handmade labels, my wonderful groom and I were awarded a ceramic big for our sweet and spicy hot bacon teriyaki sauce over watermelon. (Waiting on a shot of the prize!) What a blast that was!!!

Have a great Monday!!
