Spring is in the air... severe weather is happening... elsewhere.

It's Monday, so that means "Odd Shots Monday" (please visit Katney's Kaboodle to play), and I have decided to play today, mostly because I got a chance to shoot something this weekend that I found odd. I've shared with you that I love it when wisteria is in bloom because I enjoy wisteria, mostly because I love how it just covers the area in a blanket of purple during it's short blooming season. When I shared that with bf, he said, "I especially love white wisteria." WHITE WISTERIA?! WHAT?! I hadn't ever heard of that! He told me that his mother had some growing in her backyard, so while I was over there this weekend, I excused myself, with the kids in tow, into a swarm of mosquitoes where I snapped a few quick shots of this white wisteria, which is quite beautiful and unique. Without further a-dew, here is my odd shot collection... I know, I know, I am breaking the rules (so did Katney!!! lol), supposed to just have one.Bf is right, they are incredibly beautiful, and I had no idea they existed. I see lots of the purple around town at this time of year, but it was my first time seeing the white, and they are breathtaking. Definitely, lots of springlike growth in the air... more and more signs of spring with each day... here are some more south Georgia spring shots... including (of course) the purple variety of wisteria... which is still my favorite since purple rocks!Moving on from that, I had a spectacular weekend. It started with the Texas Hold'em tournament that I hosted. It was my goal to make it past the 3rd hand, and I made it well past there... I was the 5th to last out of the game, and it paid out to third place, so I am pretty proud of my accomplishment. It was a lot of fun, and I am so glad to finally be getting the hang of it after 3 times playing. Aside from that, bf, the kids and I took a trail down to the river, the same river that flooded quite recently when we had all that rain. We had a lot of fun exploring in the river, wading some... Here in the pic, we are actually crossing over a shallow section balancing on some rocks. My biggest fear was that I would fall and mess up my camera... lol... You could see the debris in the tree line marking how high the water level rose during the flood. The kids (at bf's prompting) gathered a Gatorade bottle full of tadpoles that they plan to raise to frogs... they are actually talking about a frog farm, lol. Don't know how that will go, since BF's mom was talking about taking them back to the river on Sunday... lol. An oddity occurred while we were down that trail in a secluded section of town... dear son showed up with a couple of friends. Mind you, we've got 100,000 people in the local area, and my dear son showed up in the exact location we were exploring. Funny.

Yesterday, dear son's wonderful girlfriend, who I adore asked Mini-Dew to participate in a photo shoot, for a marketing ad development for her new store. Mini-Dew and a few others got all dolled up and dressed in clothes from the shop and posed around town with the paparazzi in tow. Too funny. We unfortunately ran out of daylight, having started too late, so they will pick up today where they left off since Mini-Dew is out of school on Spring Break. Now, Mini-Dew is getting passionate about modeling... sheesh.

I guess I should talk about weather, since there is currently a severe weather event going on in the Mid-west as a mesoscale convective complex (MCC) makes its way across the central CONUS. This morning, I was watching TWC, as one particular supercell persisted in one spot in Oklahoma, showing strong lower level rotation, maintaining a Doppler indicated tornado warning during the entire time I was getting ready. The SPC has outlined an area of moderate risk for severe weather. It appears that Steve Miller in Oklahoma has decided to go after this one. I'm sure he will be posting as much as possible... since he already has some up from yesterday. Lots of chasers appear to be chasing this system, based on what I see on spotternetwork.org. The SPC doesn't have any tornado reports posted, but there is one report of a tornado coming through the spotter network, near Waterloo, OK. When it starts really firing, I will try to update. Locally, we only had sprinkles; it appears that the moisture missed us. All weekend, we saw beautiful weather, little cloudy at times, got kind of cool yesterday, but not with much fan fare... oh well.

Happy Monday,
~Dewdrop

  1. What a wonderful post. I did not know those purple flowers were called wisteria. I have always wondered what they were. Sounds like you all had a wonderful time at the river.

  4. Thanks, Andrea. It truly was a wonderful weekend. I absolutely love wisteria. I saw it for the first time in a movie filmed in Savannah and fell in love the way it hung like a swag over the entryway of a home there. Beautiful.

Mike, We have done the frog farm thing a few times, so it should be interesting thing this time... the kids are talking about sharing time with the tadpoles, so we shall see. lol. Thanks for the compliments.

Lilli, I have heard that they are a difficult vine to raise, and they are much like kudzu in growth, so you should start small, unless you want it EVERYWHERE! It's only pretty for such a short time is the problem I have with it.

  7. Lovely post! I'll assume that you posted the first pic as an Odd Shot, and all the rest were fascinating information.

I'm so poorly educated that I hadn't realised there were actually real-life storm-chasers! Duh!

  8. Thanks, Dragonstar! I guess for rules sake, the first is the odd shot, and the others just supplement the post. I thought they were too beautiful not to include. Yep, Storm Chasers all around... We are everywhere!!!

  9. Hey Dew. I love the flower pics! I really think you have a talent, there. I was fortunate enough to be able to chase in sw Oklahoma yesterday with a friend and we caught a sweet, classic supercell. It wanted to put down a tornado, but it just wouldn't. I don't think there was enough 0-1 km shear to get things spinning. I already have tons of pics from yesterday and we are planning to go back out today, so I won't be updating my blog until tomorrow, at the earliest. Hopefully you can get some good convection out in your area soon!

  16. I'm glad you at least get to appreciate my flowers... until yours arrive, at least. April snow showers bring May flowers???? Isn't that how that works? God bless you, Beth Ellen.

  18. Wisteria is Scott and my favorite too! I never knew there was white either. Very interesting! The purple looks like a bunch of grapes hanging to me.

  19. Thanks. I love it when I have something cool to blog about. It was wild to see dear son there, of all the people... wild. The tadpoles are still swimming around in a jar at bf's parents' house. We are havi ng wonderful adventures together.

I am so glad I wasn't the only one who didn't know about white wisteria. I am so glad bf introduced me to it.
